Craniosacral therapy is gaining recognition as a gentle yet effective method for alleviating pain and promoting overall wellness. This holistic approach focuses on the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Many individuals are turning to this therapy as a natural alternative to traditional pain management techniques. In this post, we will explore the benefits of craniosacral therapy, how it works, and what to expect during a session.

What Is Craniosacral Therapy?

Sometimes, what you’re looking for is a little room to exhale. A place to rest, notice what you’re feeling, and receive care without having to push through anything.

Craniosacral therapy is one of the gentle approaches I offer at Nourish. With light touch and an unhurried pace, it creates space for us to listen and respond to your experience.

What does craniosacral therapy involve?

Craniosacral therapy is a form of hands-on bodywork with roots in osteopathic practice. Its name refers to the cranium, or skull, and the sacrum at the base of the spine. Sessions commonly involve gentle contact at the head, along the spine, and elsewhere in the body.

In my practice, the emphasis is on attentive touch, your comfort, and what you notice as we work together.

What does “listening to the body” mean?

For me, listening begins with respect for the body’s innate intelligence—its ongoing capacity to adapt, respond, and participate in its own care. My intention is to tune into that capacity with gentle touch, patience, and curiosity.

I pay attention to what I feel beneath my hands alongside what you notice and share. Together, those observations guide the pace of the session, where we spend time, and when we pause.

I see my role as creating supportive conditions and responding thoughtfully to you, with room for your experience to lead the way.

My approach is informed by Upledger CranioSacral Therapy Levels 1 and 2, alongside my broader training in massage and bodywork. I bring that training into each session with curiosity and respect for your individual experience.

What can you expect at Nourish?

We begin with a conversation about what brings you in, your health history, and what you’re hoping for. You don’t need to know the right terminology or arrive with everything figured out.

Craniosacral work can be received fully clothed, resting on the treatment table with pillows or bolsters for support. My hands make light, sustained contact, and the pace leaves room for stillness.

You might notice warmth, a sense of settling, or subtle changes in how you feel. You might notice very little. There is no particular sensation you need to have, and nothing you need to make happen.

You’re welcome to ask questions, talk about your experience, or enjoy the quiet. Your consent and comfort guide the session throughout.

Why might you choose this kind of session?

Perhaps you prefer very light touch. Perhaps you’re feeling stretched thin and would welcome quiet, attentive care. Or perhaps you’re curious about a different way to experience bodywork.

Those are all starting points for a conversation.

I approach this work with respect for your body’s innate intelligence and openness to the mystery of healing. Each session offers space to listen, rest, and notice what unfolds, without needing to reach a particular outcome.

Your experience and feedback help guide our work together. The benefits of craniosacral therapy for specific medical conditions haven’t been clearly established, so I offer it as complementary care alongside the healthcare you need.

How does it fit into your care?

At Nourish, you can book a session focused solely on craniosacral therapy, or we can discuss including this gentle approach within your individualized bodywork.

Together, we’ll consider your preferences, health history, and how you respond. Afterward, we’ll take a moment to check in about what you noticed and whether this approach feels useful to you.

I see my role as offering attentive care and creating conditions where you have room to rest and reconnect with yourself.
